Runner up means £20,000 investment for FreightArranger
7 October 2013 FreightArranger, the new online intermodal brokerage system which is making logistics more efficient, has just picked up second prize in the Rail Freight Customer Challenge at the 2013 Rail Customer Experience Competition.
FreightArranger were one of 16 finalists chosen from 111 entrants in the competition organised by Enabling Innovation Team (EIT). EIT, which was established to accelerate innovation in the GB railway, helps to address industry challenges by supporting demonstration projects.
The FreightArranger system has been designed to make the best use of the UK's transport network, reducing congestion and producing less carbon by letting users quickly and easily book rail freight and any necessary road pre and end carriage, using its simple online enquiry and booking screen.
It is designed for single or multiple container moves, bringing the benefits of rail freight to a wider community, with single-point booking and locator services for forwarders.
Managing Director Nick Radcliffe said: “We are looking forward to launching commercially, and have extensively tested the full capability of FreightArranger, including very specific elements such as route, time, gauge, pricing, container capacity, and terminal opening times. We have a system that we can be very proud of and that we’re sure can make a huge difference to how intermodal freight is booked.”
He said the £20,000 prize money, from the Rail Customer Experience Competition, will be invested in further software development, enhancing the enquiry and booking element to make the process even simpler and faster.
